Positive or Negative...?A new rugby national competition will soon play a major role on the clubs around Sydney?
NSW will field three teams for the new competition jeopardising the elite level of the Sydney Club competition.
NSW will provide three sides, Queensland two, and there will be one each from Canberra, Perth and Victoria. Each squad will have 28 players. This for some has been seen as a loss of revenue for club rugby, as the committee believes for its first year the 8-10 team competition will set its fundamentals not profit gaining for the 2.5million dollar start-up funds to the competition.
The program of rugby games will be from a period of July 28 until October 14. this period was determined on:
-The club season will no longer be broken into two competitions. Club rugby will run from March to July;
- It will begin after the Super 14 and the Australia A program;
- It will ensure the availability of Australian under-19 and under-21 players;
- Each team will play 10 to 12 matches, with the top four teams contesting the finals.
Welcome to a season at hectic situations....
