Johns contemplated suicide

Feeling down about having a good time, former Newcastle Knights captain, Andrew Johns, admitted that he thought about taking his own life after his arrest for possession of an ecstasy tablet earlier this year.
Australian society idolizes its sports figures, but it's prudent to remember that the athletes are human, too, capable of making errors and prone to bad judgment. Footy stars inevitably go from being young kids to instantaneous celebrities, and the rocket to fame doesn't guarantee them maturity.
After years of being lauded as one of the best players in history, Andrew Johns admitted that he never felt comfortable with the stature of 'Joey' Johns. Isolated even while being applauded, he turned to drugs and alcohol.

""I've carried the guilt for years that the perception of my life has been such a lie," he wrote.
"To be brutally honest - I hated 'Joey' Johns. I hated the superstar-type figure I was perceived to be and I hated as much the person I really was.
"Now, I am finally comfortable with who I am as a person.""
